“Pleasure was the color of the time.”
Harold Clurman
1920s was one of the best times in American History. It was the time when business went quite well for high class as well as for middle and low classes. It was the time when you could easily earn money and find any goods you need either it was in legal or illegal ways.
Truly, 1920s were especially roaring for high and middle classes. Moreover, at that time they tried their best at their jobs. The higher your status, the more money you gain.
In addition, in 1920s people mostly spent all their money on entertainment. Also, at that time people mostly were airheaded, outgoing, and were doing everything in order to get satisfaction.
Actually, because of the government idea of not involving into the business ans “laisser-faire” style of ruling the country, it was the best time for mobsters and illegal business. Mostly, the highly spread illegal business at that time was alcohol. Naturally, the government forbidded alcohol in order to have a healthy and intelligent society, but it was easy to get alcohol in the black/ underground market.
However, in 1920s there were big movings of immigrants, which lead to the Great Migration. Furthermore, immigrants, in order to get a well-paid jobs, started to move to the East Coast.
Generally, the high level of the immigrants that came to the United States lead to the beginning of the Harlem Renaissance. Obviously, immigrants and african-americans were hardly discriminated by the society.
